It’s been 4 months since Tendulkar adopted the village of Puttamraju Kandriga. The difference he made in theses past 4 months is phenomenal. Concrete roads were laid, a sewage treatment plant was installed, 24/7 power supply ensured, Puttamraju Kandriga has got everything.
It took 4 months for Sachin to change the slummy village of Puttamraju Kandriga into a modern miracle. Concrete roads were laid with tiled pavements, an underground sewage network was built along with the installation of sewage treatment plant, storm-water drains, 24-hour water, power supply, a playground, and a community hall.
The village is located in Andhra Pradesh about 150 km north of Chennai, now its got the infrastructure that puts many Indian cities to shame.
On the other hand, Rajya Sabha M.P. Tendulkar says that they are planning to do much more. It was just last Nov 2014 that Sachin stepped in to adopt the village under the "Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana", flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi a month earlier.
Puttamraju Kandriga is a sleepy little village with just 399 people living in 110 houses. Predominantly made up of Backward Class/ST below-poverty-line families, the people make a living from growing red chillies and lime.
“We had no roads, no toilets in our homes nor did we have running water and uninterrupted power supply till Sachin Tendulkar adopted our village. Today, we have all of those along with excellent roads,” says Bhaskara Rao, a chilli farmer-resident, with a mix of happiness and pride.
Sachin Tendulkar who has contributed ₹2.79 Cr from the MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds, while the Government has sanctioned ₹3 Cr. All credit to Sachin he maintained good co ordination with the local village administration.“I’m proud that we have been able to provide basic necessities of life such as running water on tap at home and toilets.”
When Tendulkar was asked by leading daily “ Why not take a village in the home state? Why in Andhra pradesh?”
